How to add a transition ?
There are different ways to replace a shot with another, which is called "image transition", for which editing programs provide many options. For example, where the first image slowly fades away while the next appears instead. Where you apply a transition, it is indicated in the second bar of the timeline.

Please note not to use too many (types of) transitions and make sure that the transitions match the style of your movie, otherwise they can become rather obtrusive and annoying.
